If you want to make money, the steps are simple from here: Find your first customer, then your second customer, then your third customer, then well you, I think you get a picture.

Of course, there are many different ways to make money. We will dive there later.

Let's satter the whole process of creating a blog in full.

How to Start a blog

Step 1: Find Blog Ideas

This is arguably the most important step for your blog.

Choosing the topic of your blog (or niche) determines the rest of the future of the website. This is what you will write and - hopefully - make money from.

The news is good: practically there are hearings out there for each topic that you might be interested in.

But there are several topics that tend to perform better than others. You need to find the topic that both of them appeal to a big audience while interesting for you.

1. What am I interested in?

What topics do you love? What are you obsessed?

This is the basis of your blog niche. After all, if you don't like the topic, you will not want to write about it everyday.

To help answer this question, I suggest looking towards several areas:

  • Talent. Is there something you talent naturally? Maybe sports equipment, games, or music.
  • Skill. What skills and knowledge have you woken up for years? Maybe there is something you go to school for you to write now. Think of the subject or academic skills such as language and repair cars.
  • Career. Your current career can be a fantastic place to be written. For example, if you are a developer for startup, you can start blogging about the development of front-end or technology industry.
  • Hobbies and desires. Is there a topic that you like to study? Think about the things you do in your free time. Maybe it reads a book, or does your fantasy novel, or repair the old car in your garage. This can be a good topic to be written on your blog.

Action Steps: Write 10-15 topics you are interested in. Drag the document or a piece of paper and completely write it down. This will help you concentrate your ideas. Plus, you can refer later when you make a final decision.

2. What other people are interested?

This area is rather complicated.

You need to find out what other people are interested too. If not, you might find yourself with a blog that doesn't attract many people.

For example, you might think that blogs are all about how beautiful your dog is very interesting - but will it attract many people?

On the other hand, a blog about how to treat and train attractive dogs for a much larger reader audience.

You need to take your personal interest and find a way to make it universal. Think of destroying how you initially get interest in the topic. How do you collect skills on the topic?

Think of all the questions and confusion that you have when you start and what helps you get expertise.

To help, here are some popular popular categories that are good:

  • Personal finance
  • Fitness
  • Online business
  • Invest
  • Productivity
  • Housing area
  • Career
  • Test preparation
  • Freelancing.

Pro Tip: Use the Google keyword planner tool to see how often people search for certain categories or niches. This will reveal what people are and not interested.

Action Steps: Look at your list from before. Are there those included in this category? If not, it's okay! Maybe there are still hearings out there for one of your topics.

For now, I want you to choose the topic of your list that you want to play to a blog. After you do it, you will make it more specific and like it.

For example, you might want to start a personal financial website. Niching down may mean you create a personal financial website for millennials to produce $ 100,000 a year. Or for thirty something you want to retire early. Or whatever

Step 2: Find a perfect domain name

Now the fun part: choose the name of your blog. For this, I have good news and bad news.

  • Bad news: Most of the "best" domain names have been taken. The internet has been a few decades. Makes sense.
  • Good news: it's not a problem because we will find the best for you.
Here are some good rules to remember when choosing a good name:

  • In short. Don't force potential visitors must type many words to visit your website. We recommend no more than 14 characters.
  • Select .com, .org, or .net. This is the easiest for people to remember.
  • Easily spell and say. You don't want to spell constantly for people when you mention your blog domain.
  • Avoid numbers and hyphens. Not only looks clumsy in the URL but it's also difficult to type when you add a hyphen.
  • Use your name. Tend your name available as a domain. It makes it a perfect choice for a personal blog. I will talk more about this later.
When you come with the domain you like, go to Bluehost to see if it is available using their domain tool. If yes! If not, you now have two options:

  • Find until you find the available domain. I highly recommend you do this until you find the domain available. If you are going to write a blog, sharpen your synonym skills by searching for other words and phrases that might be available. Trust me. As a writer who works, this is a very important skill.
  • Buy a domain name. Although it is possible to buy a domain from someone who already has it, it is a sophisticated choice and can get expensive quickly. Low-quality domains will usually run several thousand dollars. High-quality domains that two words can easily reach $ 10,000 to $ 50,000. I have even discussed to buy a domain with more than $ 100,000 and the really hot can damage seven points. Not to mention all the hassle coming from finding people who have a domain, negotiate with them, and transfer domains if you can get an agreement.
Your best bet is keep running until you find the domain you like and can buy directly from the domain registrar for around $ 10.

We go into many details about which domain applicants to use here. But I highly recommend that you buy a web host that allows you to register a domain for free. That means going with Bluehost.

Use your personal name as a domain

If this is your first blog and you are not fully sure what you want to blog, I suggest you use your personal name.

The reason is to change your domain later means that you have to start from the beginning. There are many errors in blogging that can be corrected later; Having a wrong domain is not one of them.

Say you choose a domain like fitnessfordoctors.com. Then after six months, you realize you prefer to do personal financing blogging for doctors. You must get a new domain and start from the beginning.

The private domain is far more flexible - it's just a name. So if you jump categories after a few months, it's no big deal. Lower old content that is not relevant to your new direction, start posting new content, and you are fine.

That said, the private domain has two main disadvantages:

  • Scalability. Much more difficult to recruit other writers or grow your blog outside your personal identity later.
  • Selling. Private blogs, even if they make serious cash, much more difficult to sell. Prospective buyers want sites that don't depend on one person.
This is a problem that is quite advanced to have. So if this is your first blog, the benefits of using your name because the domain exceeds the cost that only appears on the road.

Action Steps: Select the domain name and run with it.

Although it is important to choose a good domain name and brand, the most important thing to do in this step is to make a decision and leave. You don't want to be trapped in a "paralysis with frightening analysis." Instead, just choose one based on the system above and run with it.
